Meet the locals who will look after your next event in Rotorua

When you come to Rotorua, chances are you’ll meet some of the city’s OGs, original hosts from way back. They’re among the best advocates for Rotorua – they love this place and they love sharing what makes the city awesome.

It doesn’t take long to see, hear and feel their passion, enthusiasm, sincerity and warmth, and it doesn’t take long before you realise Rotorua offers a deeper experience than anywhere else in Aotearoa.
For Jessie Emery, whose great-great grandmother was one of the original tour guides of the Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley, looking after people is in her blood, so it’s no surprise she’s in a role looking after conference and event organisers. “We treat everyone that comes into this place like they’re coming into our home,” she says with pride.

World traveller and former professional whitewater kayaker Sam Sutton will tell you Okere Falls in Rotorua is the best place on planet Earth – and his pure love for this little slice of heaven is so authentic, you’ll soon feel the same, whether you’ve been here before or it’s your first time. It’s his passion for this tiny patch of our region that drove him to create not one, but two businesses that allow him to showcase just how special it is.
