The newly renovated Napier Conference Centre will be the region’s premier venue for conferences, meetings, trade shows, events and special occasions when it re-opens next month.
A year-long, multi-million-dollar redevelopment of the Council-owned facility has resulted in a larger foyer for pre-function events, a purpose-built exhibition area, more dining space and contemporary décor and furnishings.
Napier City Council Venues Manager Glenys Fraser says the upgrade has created an impressive multi-purpose venue, the only one of its size in Hawke’s Bay. “This has been a significant Council investment in the region’s burgeoning business tourism industry. We already have strong forward bookings for this year and for 2018. Long term, all of Napier and Hawke’s Bay will reap the economic benefits, and our guests will enjoy being here – it’s bigger and better than ever!”
This is not the first time the conference centre has undergone a dramatic transformation to meet demand for a quality venue.
Originally constructed in 1956, in memory of those who lost their lives in the Second World War, it was used for a variety of purposes. After a major refurbishment in 1995 the centre re-opened as a dedicated conference, event and wedding facility.
Following this latest upgrade, the foyer has morphed into an ideal ‘meet and greet’ space, creating flow between all public spaces. Panoramic views are integral to the experience on offer, thanks to the venue’s location on Marine Parade, and the iconic curved ballroom with its spectacular 180-degree views of the Pacific Ocean has been expanded to increase dining capacity up to 350 guests. A brand new exhibition hall accommodates up to 25 exhibition sites, and also boasts drive-in access for vehicles.
Dish, one of Hawke’s Bay’s most prestigious catering companies, has been awarded the catering contract and will be operating onsite out of a new kitchen, working hard behind the scenes to provide innovative, contemporary cuisine to suit every occasion including weddings.
Being just a bouquet’s throw from the beach means multiple photo locations for weddings are within easy walking distance, including Napier’s elegant waterfront viewing platform, manicured gardens, coloured fountain and Art Deco architecture.
Client Relations Coordinator Jacqui D’Ath says a fabulous venue and quality staff is a winning combination for the future. “The team at Napier Conference Centre offers experience, dedication and local knowledge. We’re lucky enough to work in an amazing venue, in a stunning waterfront setting, located in one of the country’s most beautiful regions. No wonder we all have a smile on our faces when we come to work!”
